The Steam Room by MidamgolfHQ
April 2024
What we are steaming on this month:
We are back for another issue of the newsletter. March carried forward the momentum from the Gasparilla with another thrilling event down Alabama way. We will recap all the happenings below.
We do need to make one correction. In a previous issue, we had the dates wrong for the Trans-Miss Mid-Masters which we have corrected below. Thanks to those of you who emailed in to let us know!
Ok onto the fun part……we hope you enjoy!

Snedeker Memorial

The Lakewood Club
Champion: Jordan Russell

Recap: The Snedeker Memorial made a splash in its first year. The event flew under the radar (heck we even missed it!) in the lead-up but attracted a strong field and has now established itself as a major mid-am staple.
The event pays tribute to the parents of Brandt and Haymes Snedeker - Larry and Candice. The host club - Lakewood - is a Perry Maxwell gem and was built in 1947. The club has hosted 3 previous USGA events making it a perfect venue to challenge the country’s best mid-ams.
Jordan Russell prevailed as this year’s champion torching the field for a 6-shot victory. Russell hails from Texas and built a strong amateur resume over the years, including a runner-up at the prestigious Western Amateur in 2012.
The event also featured a team competition. Jordan Russell and the legendary John Hunter took home the spoils on the team side.
Plenty of fun was had off the course with a hosted dinner on Friday of the event. The dinner featured entertainment from comedian Henry Cho. We would point out the social side of the major mid-am events is just as strong as the on-course competition.
Cheers to everyone involved for a great first year!

George Coleman Invitational
April 25-27, 2024
Seminole Golf Club
Defending Champion: Jeronimo Esteve
The George C. Coleman Invitational Golf Tournament at Seminole is a legendary event steeped in rich history and tradition. Against the backdrop of Seminole's timeless beauty and challenging layout, players are transported to a bygone era of golf, where respect for the course and one's fellow competitors reign supreme.
One tradition in particular stands out above the rest at the Coleman: Play Fast! No 4.5 hour rounds are tolerated at this event. Now if we could get everyone else in tournament golf on board with this idea!
As the Coleman continues to evolve and write new chapters in its illustrious history, one thing remains certain: its legacy as a beacon of excellence in amateur golf will endure for generations to come.

The question we get the most in our DM’s is “how do I get into the invitational events?” This is the million-dollar question in mid-am golf! While we don’t have all the answers we figured we might shed some light on the invitational circuit.
The first step to securing an invitation to a top event is obvious: you need to build a strong competitive resume. Compete at the local and state levels in premier amateur and mid-amateur tournaments. Every state golf association hosts a high quality mid-am championship. Additionally, qualifying for USGA events is the pinnacle achievement for any resume. Therefore, sign up and persevere to qualify and compete in USGA Mid-Am, 4-ball, and other events.
Once you've fortified your resume, what's next? Head to the bar and start making connections! Networking is crucial, and being personable can only help your cause. What sets our community apart is the caliber of individuals involved. While you might not secure a coveted Crump Cup invitation at your state mid-am cocktail hour, you will undoubtedly forge meaningful friendships and begin to unlock opportunities for other tournaments and exciting golf experiences
There's a wealth of outstanding mid-amateur events out there, too many for us to highlight fully in this space. Dive into the scene and enjoy the ride!
Cheers
